I think what genuinely sets Tumblr apart from other massive social media sites (Tiktok, Twitter, Facebook, etc) is that there is an onus on these other sites to publicly state your real name, identifiable information, and credentials.

On Tumblr, nobody wants to be perceived as Real People. In fact, one of the fastest ways I can tell someone is a bot is if they have a "selfie" photo as their avatar.

This isn't a site for "let's dox ourselves" this is a site for just playing in the sandbox and enjoying things we enjoy.

It's another reason the twitterification (and Tumblr Live) of the site feels so off. I have no desire, at all, to interact with real people. Just let me be a dog on a boat.
